Lessons with Sylvia are designed to help you make real music from the start. You’ll learn how to play scales, chords, strumming patterns, and melodies through a wide variety of genres and songs.
Absolutely! With the right teacher and a supportive approach, learning ukulele online is not only possible but also convenient and effective. Sylvia uses interactive methods and video calls to ensure every lesson is engaging and tailored to your needs, no matter where you are in the world.
All you need is your ukulele, a good internet connection and a way to connect. Sylvia prefers to use Zoom on a laptop, which also works on mobile phones and tablets. A WhatsApp video call can be possible as well.
No prior experience required! Absolute beginners are welcome and Sylvia’s approach is all about meeting you where you are: your personal goals, musical tastes, and aspirations are always considered, so you can develop your own unique style.
If you already have some experience with strumming and chords or fingerpicking, Sylvia can help you refine your skills, or help identify any further areas to expand.
Sylvia’s focus is on hands-on playing and enjoying music, not getting bogged down in theory—although you’ll always build a solid foundation in the essentials. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to take your playing further, you’ll find the lessons supportive, welcoming, and tailored to you.
Sylvia has experience teaching students from all sorts of ages. She has found that very young children, under 6, sometimes struggle with focus and finger dexterity, therefore she recommends starting from the age of six and above. As for older students, while true that it can be more of a physical and mental challenge the older you get, learning the ukulele is an excellent way to stay sharp, improve co-ordination, and keep stimulated!
A full lesson is 50-minutes and a half lesson is 30-minutes, recommended for very young students or those with time constraints.
Sylvia draws on several resources to teach you in the most effective way possible, sometimes utilising books, online tabs or her own material creations to illustrate theory, technique, and performance.
